ChinaWorth has strived to meet the matchmaking requirements of both sides by finding Chinese enterprises in line with Ontario projects from the very beginning, scheduling matchmaking only for enterprises which have particular demand matching with supply projects of the Ontario side, and developing a realistic matchmaking timetable.
Enterprises and agencies from both sides have communicated and liaisoned with each other positively during matchmaking, revealing the vitality of Ontario-Beijing technology innovation cooperation. At the forum representatives from Ontario and Beijing have performed more than 200 matchmaking activities over 90 projects involving clean technology, air pollution control, biomedicine, and financing, among others, 15 cooperation agreements have been signed, and agreement on cooperation has been reached for 32 projects.
Beijing has an inherent advantage in cooperating with Canada, especially Ontario in science and technology innovation, Mr. Zhu Shilong, Deputy Director, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission said at the opening ceremony. Through mutual visits and exchange between governments and institutions in recent years, a high efficient bilateral communication, exchange and cooperation mechanism has been developed and an official collaborative platform – Beijing-Ontario Technology Innovation Cooperation Center has been particularly created to play an important role in promoting innovation cooperation and exchange and facilitating signing and landing of many international scientific & technological cooperation projects. This forum has been initiated and hosted jointly by both sides in the framework of Beijing-Ontario Technology Innovation Cooperation Center. Mr. Zhu stated that the forum is expected to be a long-lasting mechanism and brand that keeps deepening exchange and cooperation between China and Ontario. The Chinese side is prepared to work with the Ontario side to achieve common development, establish high-level cooperation platforms, enhance communication, stimulate joint R&D and technology transfer and share global scientific and technological progress. We hope that more Canadian innovation enterprises and agencies would seek cooperation and landing in Beijing for common development, Mr. Zhu said.
Ms. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario described strengths and models of innovation in Ontario and said China and Ontario have established strategic partnership in many areas of technology and Ontario has been particularly interested in Beijing as a major driver of innovation. We hope to develop a closer cooperation between Beijing and Ontario in the future and create a win-win situation through joint innovation and development, Ms. Wynne said. Tax treatment and business environment favorable to innovation and creativity are particularly mentioned in her speech. The Ontario government is confident in and supports the innovation and creativity industry as innovation can improve medical, employment and living conditions.
