May 27 – Ontario Technology Commercialization Seminar held in Tianjin
The seminar which was co-organized by Ontario IMC Beijing, Embassy of Canada, Northern Technology Exchange Market, Beijing-Ontario Scientific and Technical Innovation Cooperation Centre, among others aims to connect international S&T resources with extensive research, enterprise and innovation resources in Tianjin, serve Tianjin’s STI, achievement transformation and economic growth and “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei” coordinated development by relying on Tianjin Technology Transfer Cluster.

At the seminar Ontario IMC Beijing, Embassy of Canada presented technologies including signal image and data processing, innovative heating solutions, global phone book and free voice service, water-assisted engine and UV water treatment of Canadian technology enterprises and showed the latest achievements made by Canada, especially Ontario in areas including communication, clean energy and automobile.

According to Ms. Guan Huaiming, Vice President of Northern Technology Exchange Market, Tianjin has been positioned as an industry innovation center and is working on international technology cooperation for achieving at an advanced level. “We focus on introducing and attracting overseas research institutes, high-end technology transfer agencies, innovation and entrepreneurship teams and promising research and industrialization projects, and help technology-oriented little giant enterprises, international S&T cooperation bases and overseas innovators establish joint research centers or labs, joint international technology transfer agencies, and S&T, industry, parks or industry innovation alliances, or stimulate technical cooperation and industrialization,” Ms. Guan said.
Over 70,000 technology-oriented SMEs has emerged in Tianjin after 5 years of development. More than 100 universities in Beijing have cooperated with Tianjin in terms of research and technology transfer, a few hundred of research institutes carried out industry innovation activities in Tianjin, and technology transfer and transformation of achievements have become the power behind Tianjin’s innovation-driven development.
Mr. SongYijun is optimistic about China’s innovation and entrepreneurship environment and saw great possibilities for cooperation between China and Canada in S&T exchange and cooperation. He said, “cooperation between Canada and China has changed from introduction of product to introduction of project over the last 2 decades. This reflects the increased comprehensive strength of China.”
As a matter of fact, this Symposium has been the first international technology achievement matchmaking activity following the residing of Beijing-Ontario Scientific and Technical Innovation Cooperation Centre in Tianjin Technology Transfer Cluster.
